On 26th January 2025, the EU-EAC Core Programme joined the global customs community in commemorating International Customs Day under the theme “Customs Engaging Traditional and New Partners with Purpose.” The day provided a valuable platform to reflect on the role of customs in promoting secure, efficient, and people-centred trade within the East African region.
In alignment with this year’s theme, the Programme amplified the importance of strategic partnerships—both established and emerging—in strengthening customs operations and enhancing regional integration. Activities marking the day included stakeholder engagements, awareness sessions, and knowledge exchange forums, underscoring the need for continued collaboration between customs administrations, the private sector, and development partners.
